"Resilience of Emptiness", 2007
Thesis Project
This installation deals with the ephemeral, and moves away from the art object to the idea of a field condition. The Resilience of Emptiness is a field of threads suspended from the ceiling. Each thread is attached to a motor and is capable of producing virtual volumes. The piece alternates between a series of lines and volumes. As the lines conflate into volumes, the space thickens. At certain moments each thread operates at its own unique speed and a frenetic space emerges. Space folds back upon itself as people move through the installation. Figure and ground relationships continually shift, and our conception of emptiness is questioned.
